Facial Aesthetics & Anti Ageing Treatments
In many cases antiwrinkle injections and dermal fillers are as important to aesthetic dentistry as a beautiful healthy and white smile. The soft tissues of your face help to frame the smile and make you look younger and fitter. As we get older these treatments become more important in maintaining our appearance and helping us to look and feel great.
Antiwrinkle injections and dermal fillers can help restore the rested, confident appearance you desire. Injections of Botulinum Type A toxin have been safely and successfully used for many years and can help greatly to eliminate frown lines or creases between the eyebrows or crow’s feet around the eyes. These lines can make you look worn or tired and somewhat older.
In Ireland, antiwrinkle injections and dermal fillers treatments can only be offered by either doctors or dentists. Even though these treatments are straightforward to perform, knowledge of facial anatomy is essential to ensure successful treatment.
Q: How do anti-wrinkle injections work?
This treatment involves injecting a small amount of a protein produced by the Clostridium Botulinum bacterium with a very fine needle into the small muscles of the face.
The Botulinum Toxin inhibits the transmission of neuropulses from the nerve to the muscle and prevents the muscle from contracting and forming wrinkles. Approximately three to ten days after treatment, the skin above injected muscles becomes nice and smooth.
Q: Does it hurt ?
The treatment is relatively painless, so anaesthesia is usually not needed. Sometimes a topical gel anaestheic can be used but it is usually not required. Some patients say they felt a tiny pinch but most are pleasantly surprised by the lack of discomfort. Immediately after the treatment you will be able to continue with your usual activities.
Q: How long does it last?
Treatment with Botulinum Toxin type A is not permanent. For the first few treatments results last 3-4months, but after that you will likely be able to extend the treatment intervals to 5-6 months and probably reduce the amount of product you require.
Q: How will I look when the effect of the anti-wrinkle injection wears off?
Your face will simply return to its previous appearance. If you use Botox for a number of years before you stop, your muscles will have learned to relax on their own and you will end up looking a little better than when you began.
Q: Is the treatment safe?
Botulinum Toxin type A is an approved prescription drug. Botox (one of the trade names of this drug) is actually manufactured in Ireland by Allergan. This has been safely used for over 30 years in the treatment of chronic migraine, bladder dysfunction, excessive sweating and other conditions.
Q: How much does this treatment cost?
One area costs €200, Two areas €300, three areas €350
